Information We (PPQ.AI) Collect

How Your Audio Is Processed

Private Whisper lets you choose how your voice is processed at two stages — speech-to-text (STT) and optional language-model (LLM) cleanup. Your choice determines what, if anything, leaves your device. PPQ never retains or trains on your audio or transcripts under any circumstance.

Speech-to-text options:

  • Parakeet (local): Runs entirely on your device. Your audio never leaves your computer and works offline.
  • Deepgram (cloud): Your audio is sent to Deepgram for transcription. By default, a privacy setting keeps your audio from being retained or used for model training; Deepgram's data training is also off by default for API customers.

LLM cleanup options (optional):

  • Local Gemma (local): Runs entirely on your device via llama.cpp. Combined with Parakeet, this is a fully on-device pipeline that works offline — nothing is sent to any server.
  • Tinfoil (confidential enclave): Your text is encrypted on your device and processed inside a hardware-secured enclave (TEE), so neither PPQ nor any intermediary can read it.
  • Groq (cloud): Your anonymous transcription text is sent to Groq for fast cleanup. To our knowledge, Groq does not use your data to train new models.

When cloud processing is used, Private Whisper submits API requests anonymously and does not store your audio or transcribed text on our servers. View each provider's privacy policy for details:

Payment Information

For card payments, we may collect:

  • Email address (for card top-ups only)
  • Payment information (processed securely by Stripe)
  • Credit balance and usage details

Crypto Pay-Per-Use

Pay-per-use access can be purchased anonymously with crypto and without creating an account.

Local Storage

Your transcription history, settings, and preferences are stored locally on your device in a SQLite database.

Query Metadata

For each transcription request, we collect the following anonymous metadata to improve service quality and identify problems. We do not store IP addresses or any other personally identifiable information.

  • Timestamp of the request
  • Audio duration
  • Language selected
  • STT and LLM model used
  • Country Code of user (helps understand latency issues)
  • Processing time and status
  • App version
  • Error codes

Information Sharing and Disclosure

We do not sell, trade, or rent your personal information to third parties. We may share information only in these limited circumstances:

STT and LLM Providers

When you choose cloud processing, your audio is sent to Deepgram for speech-to-text (retention and training are off by default) and your anonymous transcription text may be sent to Groq for cleanup or processed inside the Tinfoil hardware-secured enclave. If you choose local processing (Parakeet and/or Local Gemma), that data never leaves your device. Private Whisper submits all cloud API requests anonymously. Payment Processing

Card payments are processed by Stripe and subject to their privacy policy. Private Whisper does not store or have access to your credit card details. To request deletion of your payment data held by Stripe, you must contact Stripe directly through their data deletion request page. Crypto payments are processed through our crypto checkout flow.

For California Users (CCPA)

You have the right to know what personal information is collected, delete personal information, and opt-out of the sale of personal information (which we don't do).

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any material changes by posting the updated policy on our website and displaying a notice in the Private Whisper application.

Your continued use of Private Whisper after changes become effective constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
